The President of Lithuania extended condolences to Russia’s leader over explosions in Moscow Metro

President Dalia Grybauskaitė offered her condolences to President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia over the explosions in Moscow Metro that left dozens of people dead and injured early Monday morning.

“The people of Lithuania and I were greatly shocked to hear about the deadly bombings in Moscow. I extend my sincere condolences to you personally, to the victims’ families and friends, and to the people of Russia,” Dalia Grybauskaitė wrote in her message of condolences to President Dmitry Medvedev.

Dalia Grybauskaitė: EU growth strategy offers new opportunities for Lithuania

he European Council approved the main targets of the EU development strategy until 2020 to be pursuit by member states through their national action programmes. The EU leaders agreed to focus on and streamline their common efforts towards fighting poverty and social exclusion, raising employment rates, improving youth education, and making maximum investments possible under specific national circumstances into scientific research and innovation. They also confirmed the commitment by member states to increase, by one-fifth, energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy in overall energy generation as well as to reduce air pollution.

Leaders of foreign states congratulate Lithuania on March 11

On the occasion of March 11, the Day of Restoration of Independence in Lithuania, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and all people of Lithuania were congratulated by leaders of France, Russia, Germany, the European Commission, and the European Union Member States.

“I am very happy that the strategic partnership created by signing a political declaration during our meeting on September 4 last year has brought France and Lithuania still closer together. Our cooperation, especially in energy and long-term development, is very promising. I intend to give full attention to our partnership within the European Union, too,” a letter from President Nicolas Sarkozy of France reads.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated President Dalia Grybauskaitė on the approaching 20th Anniversary of the Reestablishment of Lithuanian Independence and invited her for a bilateral visit to Russia at a time convenient to her.

“I am grateful for the invitation to the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Reestablishment of Independence of the Republic of Lithuania. I would like to extend my congratulations on this anniversary and to wish you and the people of Lithuania every success,” President Medvedev wrote in his message of congratulations.
