Seimas Committees on Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Promote Peaceful Dialogue Among Different Social Groups
Sunday, April 11th, 2010The Seimas Committees on Foreign Affairs and Human Rights approved the Statement on the Trends of Radicalism in Lithuania. The statement was produced in response to the current situation where persons from different social strata organise marches demonstrating the superiority of their group vis-à-vis other groups and expressing intolerance to people of other nations or beliefs. The Statement aims at preventing these trends in future and opening a peaceful dialogue among different social groups.
The Statement declares the following:
“Human rights and liberties are essential and unalterable values in a democratic society. People may not be condemned or disdained on national, religious, racial or other grounds. We all know too well the anguish inflicted on the 20th century Europe due to the disregard of these democratic values. We are not entitled to forget or ignore history’s painful lessons.
